The repechage round is a new component in the Paris Olympics. Repechage gives athletes who lost in the first round of semi-finals another possibility to advance. It’s their second chance. Wouldn’t we all like a repechage?
In fact, USA hurdler Freddie Crittenden used repechage to his advantage. Approaching the semi-final round, Crittenden’s nagging adductor muscle spelled defeat. But he had to finish the race or be disqualified, so he jogged through the course. Then with a day to rest, Crittendon won the repechage round and advanced to the finals.
Countless Olympic athletes missed the podium in Tokyo, only to develop a new training plan, get a new coach, and set their sights on Paris. Many came back and medaled.
Any time you miss your podium, reset. Identify your weak points and develop a game plan with a clear intention. Get coaching or mentorship. Work consistently and with purpose until your new skills are part of muscle memory. Then go back to your arena, step outside your comfort zone and deploy your new skills. Gold is attainable. The rings await you.
