The Gloaming

There is a time each day when it’s neither day nor night. The ancient Celts named it the Gloaming—we call it dusk or twilight. The earth seems to pause and breathe as it eases into the next phase. It’s a time when anything can happen, a time of unease, expectation and opportunity.

We were watching the terrific TV series Chef’s Table which featured Jose Andres, the world-renowned Spanish chef. Andres founded over forty restaurants and the World Central Kitchen. He talked about the thrill of starting each new restaurant or project and said, “The most wonderful things in my life have come at the edge of my comfort zone.”

If you decide to make a positive difference, it will take you to the edge of your comfort zone. At Eloqui workshops, we push students into the gloaming-- having them create and deliver a 5-minute presentation with little prep time, but supported by the tools we have given them. Unease focuses the mind, expectation fuels action, and attendees seize the opportunity to do well. The results are as magical as lightning bugs at dusk.
